My love for Language

<<J’adore les langues>> is an expression that could be translated as “I love languages” or “I love tongues”. Both translations to an eye that is used to the English tongue might find the two statements to be completely different expressions but they do mean the same thing.

Language is certainly a beautiful thing. A complex system for which one comes to understand the world and to contemplate its existence. Has this ever happened to you: you are sitting in a rocking chair, in your winter gown, by a fire place and a thought comes to your mind. Where does language come from? It has happened to me -minus the winter gown and rocking chair- I sometimes find myself pondering about the phenomena that is the human language. Whether you believe that human languages like any other language ,e.g from non-human creatures, are just mediums for which we use to communicate with each other and thus, only have a social purpose. Or you believe that language is more of an expressive platform that helps us to build our mental faculty so is thus innate.

Any standpoint one takes to define language still does not fully explain the origins of the human language which is forever evolving – the English language has changed so much in the past 100 years. The various human languages can be used to create poetic and meaningful phrases – the mind boggling grammatical systems of the world is yet another example of the beautiful complexity of the human language.

10 Steps to a healthier mind

It takes time to heal a mind. To grow a mind. Take the time to build your healthy mind.

1. Smile more

The act of smiling can help lift not just your spirits but of those around you-the more you do it the easier it will become. Trust me – smiling to yourself can feel weird at first and awkward especially when you aren’t feeling yourself. However,I have found that faking a smile once in a while can actually make you a happier person. This does not mean that you should pretend that your problems do not exist and use the smile as a mask – accepting issues and situation then figuring out how to solve them with a smile is very different from hiding.

2. Adopt a growth mind-set
You’ve probably heard it a million times but however it is true. Adopting a growth mind-set could be the start of your new journey as a better you. Carol S.Dweck stated that “In a growth mind-set students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence. They don’t necessarily think everyone’s the same or anyone can be Einstein, but they believe everyone can get smarter if they work at it.” This can be applied outside school, of course.

Welcome to my story

.We are all the main characters of our own story.

Sometimes it is easy to feel as if you are just playing a supportive role in life. You feel as if the people around you live a more exciting life – they are always in the spotlight while you hide in the shadows. You hide in the shadows of your friends. You hide in the shadows of your family.

To you , you do not matter, but to someone else you are a precious pearl- their main character. You probably haven’t met this person yet. If that is the case then you should start living for yourself. All main characters in fairy tales could not have possibly existed without their supporting characters. Would there have been a Little red ridding hood without an evil wolf- I think not. The evil wolf had a purpose and so do we all.

Each of us have a purpose in life and it is up to us to find and alter it.

Welcome to my story.

Where I make up the plot.

Where I decide who my supporting leads are.

Where I begin to live.

Why music captivates:‏

There is something magical about the way music can influence one’s mood, emotions and thoughts.

Whilst listening to one’s favourite tune your heart beat can drop instantly. Music can be a drug to calm us but also a fiery substance that could negatively influence us.

I’m a massive introvert and with that comes my reliance on music to help me get through very awkward social interactions. You could say that music is my escape from reality. An escape into someone else’s imagination.

I feel as if someone is prompting me to understand their words when I put my earphones in. A world where upon I create the scenery.

Where the tree leaves are purple and the streets are gold. Where laughter is heard regularly. My world.

Music captivates me in ways that never seizes to make me smile. In ways that I am grateful for.

Let’s all take inspiration from this unlikely source!

Orange (movie) review

Orange ,which is based off a manga series by  Ichigo Takano, is an eye- catching and poignant story of high school students who are given a chance to radically change their future. I have been itching to watch the film ever since it was announced that Kento Yamazaki would play the lead. Yamazaki definitely did not disappoint – he depicted young Kakeru Naruse beautifully along side the other cast.

The plot almost follows the same underline meaning as Ao Haru ride which also depicts a teenage boy who is battered with scars from his past and needs support and care from his friends. However, this is where the similarities of the two mangas stop as they both carry different weights and emotional ties that should be experienced. Continue reading “Orange (movie) review”
